Mary Oliver "Wild and Precious Life" Inspired Ornament
Wander of Wonder Collection: Wild and Precious Life Inspired Ornament
This series of ornaments was inspired by the last sentence in Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day which reads “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” I can not think of a more vivid reminder to live your soul’s true path and would love to set out on a Wander of Wonder with the inspirational Mary Oliver.
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean—
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down—
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
—Mary Oliver
This series of ornaments is handmade; bisque fired in my studio, and then individually painted with acrylic and varnished with a matte finish. Each ornament is an original piece of art crafted with integrity. There are seven individualized pieces made by hand with the utmost care. All seven ornaments are represented in the images on this listing. They are all special with much infused wonderous energy. Unfortunately, I can not mail specific pieces upon request, but rest assured that fate will bring the one(s) meant for you.
Measures: 3.5”-4.5” Height (depending upon size of the piece) x 2.5”-3” Width. Height and width do not include ribbon length. Measurements are of the ceramic piece alone.
Each piece comes with a frayed ribbon tied to the ornament to hang on a holiday tree. Ornament hook not included.
Although I have tried to represent the colors and textures as accurately as possible in the product images, variance in appearance may occur.
Price does not include shipping.
Handmade in Bend, Oregon with love.
